Coordination and Capacity Control of a Three-Machine Unit for Dry-Process Organic Fertilizer Granulation

When planning small-to-medium-scale organic fertilizer projects abroad, many buyers tend to focus solely on the primary granulation equipment, overlooking the compatibility of the entire production line. A combination of a half-wet material crusher, a double screws compost turner, and a double-roller press granulator forms a compact dry-process granulation chain. This solution eliminates the need for large-scale drying units, making it an ideal choice for overseas fertilizer plants with limited budgets or restricted facility space.

During the raw material pre-treatment stage, the half-wet material crusher is specifically designed to handle mixtures such as livestock manure and crop straw. These materials often feature highly variable moisture content and fibrous clumps—conditions that frequently cause standard crushers to clog or suffer from material buildup on their walls and screens. This particular crusher utilizes a screenless design, relying on dual-rotor impact and inter-material collision to achieve fine particle size, without requiring significant pre-drying of the raw materials. Once crushed, the material achieves a uniform particle size, allowing oxygen to penetrate the compost pile evenly. This prevents localized anaerobic fermentation—which can lead to foul odors—and ensures a stable aerobic composting process. In many failed overseas projects, the root cause is inconsistent particle size after crushing, which extends the fermentation cycle and ultimately compromises the quality of the final granulated product.

In the fermentation stage, a double screws compost turner is used to maintain an aerobic environment. Equipped with two sets of counter-rotating auger blades, the machine moves along a fermentation trench, lifting, tossing, and shifting the compost. This process continuously cycles material between the inner and outer layers of the pile, regulates internal temperatures, and accelerates the microbial decomposition of organic matter. Compared to larger trench-style turners, the double screws model offers a lower capital investment; it also facilitates material mixing during the turning process, eliminating the need for a separate blending step. Once fully matured, the organic matter in the material stabilizes, and harmful pathogens are eliminated, meeting the raw material standards required for dry-process press granulation.

After the matured material is screened to remove impurities, it is fed into the double-roller press granulator, where it is formed into granules at ambient temperature. Two counter-rotating pressure rollers apply high pressure to the powdered material. As the material passes through the roller gap, it is compressed and deaerated, undergoing plastic deformation to form compacted sheets. These sheets are subsequently crushed and screened to produce uniform fertilizer granules. This dry granulation process requires no external binders and eliminates the need for a drying stage, significantly reducing both initial infrastructure investment and long-term electricity costs. The resulting granules possess high density and resist pulverization during storage and transport, making the process ideal for the large-scale production of organic fertilizers and organic-inorganic compound fertilizers.

The core advantage of this production line lies in the synergy between its components, rather than the performance of any single piece of equipment. The production capacities of the primary machines—covering crushing, composting/maturation, and dry-press granulation—must be precisely matched to ensure a consistent yield of high-quality, compliant granules. The system offers a flexible layout that can be customized based on the client’s available space and target hourly output. Whether for establishing a new, small-scale organic fertilizer plant or upgrading an existing production line, this solution provides substantial practical value, helping manufacturers control operational expenses while ensuring a stable output of high-quality organic fertilizer granules.
